Kott Pediatric Dentistry - Boulder

One of the most difficult things about moving is finding health providers that you can trust. I found Doctor Kott's pediatric dental office courtesy of Google.

I was impressed by the website and the rave reviews of this dental clinic. I also appreciate that for families who don't have dental insurance, Dr. Kott's office offers a few specials so that your family can still find a way to afford a dental visit.

My sons had side-by-side appointments today for their 6-month checkup and cleaning. We checked in on a computer, which was nice. No more paper forms for this office. Everything is digital. The kids played in the vibrant play area while I filled out the forms. There is a play area that's gated off so even younger kids can play without running off. Both of my boys loved the train tracks.

One of my sons also really, really loved this giraffe.

Once it was time for their exams, each child got to pick their own seats. I loved this! For my kids, it meant that they had a little more control during an experience that might otherwise be a little nerve-wrecking. Both of the hygienists who worked with my kids were friendly, patient, and very gentle.

After their cleanings, Dr. Kott came out to examine the boys. He was very patient and explained everything he was doing as he did it. One of my sons has some anxiety about going to the dentist, but he felt very comfortable throughout the entire visit. I also loved that Dr. Kott was willing to answer any and all of my questions about my sons' teeth, as well as offer me advice and tips for keeping their teeth even cleaner.

Finally, the visit ended with each child getting a new toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, and a special toy.

If you're in the Boulder area and you're seeking a new dentist, you can learn more about Dr. Kott on his website.

Whole Foods Play Area - Boulder

If you like to shop but you can't always handle how crazy your kids get, check out Whole Foods in Boulder. You'll be able to get your shopping done and then let your kids run around in their convenient play area, located on the west end of the building. This play area is designed for kids 42 inches and smaller and is pretty small, but a good place to let your kids burn up a bit of energy before you head home.

Also at Whole Foods right now, you'll find Hay-Ville. This is a great little spot to take some cute autumn pictures of your family members or simply to pick out a great pumpkin. The huge pumpkins pictured below sell for $5.99, so it's a lot cheaper than getting a pumpkin at a pumpkin patch.

Five Spice Asian Cuisine

My family and I checked out Five Spice Asian Cuisine this week. If you like Chinese food and you want a small, friendly atmosphere for your lunch or dinner, this is the place for you.

This small restaurant is tucked quietly in a shopping center and is right by Safeway. One thing we all loved was that the servers actually speak Chinese. If you want a quiet place to study or simply want to practice your speaking skills, check out this great little spot. Additionally, many of the fellow patrons spoke Mandarin, so everyone had a great time.

Wonderscope Children's Museum

One of my favorite places to explore as a child was Wonderscope Children's Museum. I remember when Wonderscope was first built (heck, I remember when the building was still a school!), so I was thrilled when my family had the chance to visit this summer.

Wonderscope is truly a hands-on museum for kids. There are several rooms, so you'll want to give yourselves plenty of time to visit and explore each one. One of the things that I enjoyed the most was that my kids could pick and choose which rooms they wanted to explore since the museum is entirely self-guided.

Whether you simply want to visit the museum to explore with your kids, burn up time on a rainy day, or explore as a home school field trip, this is fantastic for little ones. I noticed that many of the parents at the museum had toddlers, but both my 4 and 6 year old boys had a nice time playing.

You can visit Wonderscope online to find out more information. Wonderscope is open daily from 10-5 during the summer. On Sundays the museum doesn't open until noon, and during the school year they close at 4.

Pricing is as follows:
Ages 3-63 - $7
Ages 64 and up - $6
1 and 2 year olds - $4
Infants under 1 year - FREE

There is also a membership option so if you plan to visit frequently, that may be a more economical option.

Visit Wonderscope at: 5700 King, Shawnee, KS 66203
or call them at 913-287-8888 for more information.

Haoway Chinese Cafe

If you're looking for some quick and simple Chinese food, check out Haoway Chinese Cafe. Located in the King Soopers parking lot off 30th street, this tiny cafe is the perfect place to pick up some lunch to eat at the park. The eatery has a few tables and chairs but fills up quickly. For faster eating, consider taking your food home or simply eating outside.

The food is pretty inexpensive. For less than $4 you can get one item and either rice or noodles. For a little more than $5 you'll get two items and rice or noodles. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is really relaxed.

Silver Mine Subs

I just got off a plane from Florida after going down for the weekend to cover the Red Bull Training Grounds Starcraft II competition, so needless to say, I'm a little tired. I'm also a lot hungry.

After a quick Google search, I found Silver Mine Subs right here in Colorado. They're open until 3am, which is perfect since it was already after 10 when I decided to get food. I didn't want to venture out, so I love that I could order this online and have it delivered.

The website makes it very clear that you need to leave a tip on the credit card or tip with cash. You can't leave the tip on the card after the food is delivered. The site also gave a suggested delivery time frame of about 30 minutes.

The prices are pretty reasonable. The restaurant offers subs, soups, and salads. A large sub is $7.99 and while they have a ton of options for pre-made subs, you can easily personalize any sandwich. There's also a $2.00 delivery fee.

We ordered two sandwiches, a side salad, and a pickle.

Don't ask. I just really, really love pickles.

We ordered at 10:00 on a Sunday night and while the website estimated a half hour delivery, our food arrived in a little under an hour. The sandwiches were delicious. The large size is perfect for splitting two meals or sharing with a child or friend. The salad was really simple but for a dollar fifty, who can complain? The pickle was also awesome. I'd definitely order from here again.
